Many of us simply pick up a toothbrush at the store that looks good or is on sale. Sometimes we choose by color or by a brand that we like but getting the right size toothbrush is very important. Most experts recommend brushing for two minutes but three minutes is even better. With an electric toothbrush you can, of course, gets more brushing done in a shorter length of time. The most important thing is to make sure that you clean all surfaces of your teeth. With braces, food can get stuck in places that you can’t see.
How Often Should You Brush?
Most dentists recommend brushing at least twice per day. If too much time passes between brushings, bacterial plaque will build up increasing your risk of gum inflammation or tooth decay. If you are unable to brush after a meal, at least rinse your mouth well. This can loosen and remove food particles. For those with braces, it’s important to keep a good mouthwash on hand.
